DC, Tennessee, & motorcycles in Birmingham

  We stayed in Anacostia and rode our bikes back and forth to the national mall each day.                   A new (since we were here before) exhibit at the Hirshhorn by Laurie Anderson. Serena is familiar with her music but hadn't realized she is considered a mixed media artist.   Ten million dollars worth of $10 bills in the lobby of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. We saw a similar stack of $100 bills which were worth $47,000,000.                  Natural History museum dinosaur wing was under reconstruction when we were here in 2018. The remodel is pretty impressive. Happened to spot this albino squirrel. The pigeons wanted some food too but the squirrel charged them and they scattered.                   Heading south from DC we went through Shenandoah National Park, Natchez Trace (a National Scenic Parkway), and Great Smoky Mountains ...

CA to DC (the first three weeks)

  Capitol Reef National Park Goblin Valley State Park (Utah) Crossing the Continental Divide in Colorado Salt museum 650’ underground in a salt mine. A very large piece of salt Walls and ceilings are salt. Floors have been paved. Because of the dry and temperature-stable environment, the salt mine was used as emergency supplies storage during the cold war. And they still have some of the stuff (for the museum not for an emergency). Empty Atlas missile silo Rickhouses for aging bourbon in barrels. This particular rickhouse holds 55,000 barrels. Dozens of others hold 22,000 barrels. This is just for the 2nd largest distillery in the country.  Inside the rickhouse Jeff did some shopping Mammoth cave (Kentucky) is 400 miles of interconnected passages in an area 7 miles x 7 miles x 400’ deep. Hiking at Red River Gorge Geological Area (Kentucky) And Natural Bridge Resort State Park (also Kentucky)
